—Hebrews 10:1-10
by: Dale Rood.
The Old Testament sacrifices accomplished nothing in and of themselves. According to the author of Hebrews, these sacrifices could never “make perfect those who draw near to worship” (v.1, NIV). But they did point to the one sacrifice that accomplished everything. Yes, the Old Testament sacrifices were required by the Law to be made (v.8). But now, the perfect sacrifice of Jesus, which causes the Kingdom of God to break into the Kingdom of Darkness, has come and “we (who believe) have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all” (v.10, NIV). There is no need to repeat. Neither is it for an exclusive group. The sacrifice of Christ was once for all.
