—Genesis 8:20-22; 9:8-17
by: Dale Rood.
Does this remind you of Romans 5:8, that “God commends His love to us in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (KJ2000)? Here, God saw that the “intention of man’s heart was for evil,” and yet God decided never again to “strike down every living creature as [He had] done” (v.20). The sign of this covenantal promise was the rainbow (Genesis 9:11). We see here an early indication that the reason for man’s preservation is not man’s goodness, but God’s overwhelming love. When you see a rainbow, let it remind you of the love of God that moved Him to make this covenant.
