—1 Peter 4:7-11
by: Judith Houts.
Be of sound judgment, sober spirit, and make prayer a priority. Peter’s rationale for his urgency was because the end was near. Paul, too, urged Christians to make prayer their priority, advising the church to: “Pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Not only did Peter ask us to be sober and alert, but also to love. If we have a prayer life, we get intimate with God. When we are intimate with God, we love. If we love, we can forgive. When we love and forgive, we are becoming like Christ. It is only when we become like Christ that we can help to usher in God’s kingdom on earth.
