Jesus instructed us on how to pray when trials are on the horizon through His example in this passage. First, He told His disciples to pray that they would not enter temptation. This indicates that we should be proactive in prayer and ask God to strengthen us even before we face a specific trial. Then Jesus went on His own to pray that God would take away His upcoming trial. Ultimately, however, He prayed for God’s will to be done. This is an example for us of turning to God when we are afraid and overwhelmed. He is our shelter in the midst of our trials.
