—Amos 5:1-3, 16-17
by: Paula Davis.
The end of verse 16 reads, “They shall call…to wailing those who are skilled in lamentation” (ESV). How does one become skilled in lamentation? To become skilled at something it must be practiced. According to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, lamentation is “an expression of sorrow, mourning, or regret.” How often do you and I regret our sins and come before the Lord with an expression of sorrow for our lack of faithfulness? Imagine what God could do with His people if we would become skilled in lamentation! He could then take our humble souls and use them to better build His kingdom. What a day that would be!
