—Exodus 18:1-9
by: Tim Bond.
Most of us, at some time, have had to deal with our family being split apart because of a parent’s work. Here we see what happened to Moses’ family when he followed God’s call to free the Israelites—obviously not a family friendly mission. Take note of how Moses’ father-in-law, Jethro, a priest of Midian, took care of Moses’ family despite their religious and cultural differences. Many of our readers live in the United States. If we are to live up to our self-proclaimed cultural “melting pot” status, we need to follow Jethro’s example and look beyond differences to provide care for one another so that we can all follow God’s calling in our lives.
