—Psalm 34:1-10; Hebrews 2:17-18
by: Jennifer Lewis Berg.
To fear the Lord is to be completely aware of His power and His strength. He does not want us to cower in fear. He wants us to acknowledge His supremacy. Glorifying and praising God, seeking Him, and placing Him above everything else gives Him a chance to comfort us, to protect us, to support us and to deliver us from any trouble. Likewise, Jesus assumed our fragile human characteristics so that He could understand us and become a more “merciful and faithful high priest in service to God” (Hebrews 2:17b, NIV). He has “walked a mile” in our shoes. He has first-hand knowledge of what it means to be tempted and understands human suffering.
