What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

Faith without works is dead. No, salvation cannot be earned, but our works should be a reflection of our salvation. When someone tells you that they love you, but they do not demonstrate it to you, would you not question whether or not they really love you? The same is true for believers. If someone claims to have faith, but their lives do not demonstrate that faith, you would question their faith. Ask yourself whether or not your faith is alive, whether it has value. How have you or can you express your faith today?
