—Ephesians 6:5-9

Perhaps you could say “employees and bosses” instead of “servants and masters” in this passage. How do we handle verse 5, which says servants must serve “with fear and trembling,” when Scripture also says there is no fear in love (1 John 4:18)? Perhaps, first of all, it is good to remember that we are doing our work “as to the Lord, and not to men” (v.7). Second, both employees and employers in serving “with fear and trembling” must be aware of the consequences of sloppiness and carelessness in our service. Loving service requires we do our best.
