—James 1:12-15
by: Judith Houts.
As I watched the 2018 Winter Olympics, I observed how hard the athletes worked and competed. I could not understand how these individuals risked their lives for a gold medal—and of course seeing their name on a billboard and some cash. All of the above fame and rewards are temporary! James talks about persevering for a “crown of life” (v.12). Christians are called not to compete but to constantly strive, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to live a life free from sin. Here is our discipline: exercise our mouths by praying daily; exercise our feet by walking away from sin; exercise our hands by doing what is right. The reward awaits all of those who persevere until the end.
