—Psalm 56
by: Trisha Gerstel.
In the time of writing this psalm, David had been seized by Israel’s great enemy, the Philistines. Yet he was able to write a song of praise—a song proclaiming his trust in the Lord. How did David do this? As we see in verse 13, David chose to focus on the most important—indeed the only truly important—truth of his life: God had “delivered [his] soul” so that he could “walk before God in the light of the living.” What we focus on during difficult circumstances speaks volumes about our faith, and it determines our level of peace during those trials.
