—John 7:45-52

Nicodemus was a Pharisee who was struggling. When Jesus spoke, there was something that challenged all Nicodemus believed about the Law he so strictly obeyed and enforced. Nicodemus had spoken with Jesus one night (John 3:1-21) and believed He came from God. We do not know for sure if Nicodemus believed Jesus is the Son of God, but the depth of his belief caused him to challenge his friends and colleagues to give Jesus a fair hearing. Does the depth of our belief cause us to do the same? We cannot force someone else to believe in the salvation Jesus offers, but we can (and ought to) challenge them to give Him a fair hearing and decide for themselves.
