—Deuteronomy 5:1-3; 10:12-13; 28:1-2
by: Gabrielle Watt.
It was important that Israel not see the covenant as a past agreement between the old generation and God, but rather as a present and personal one. God wanted Israel to choose to revere, obey, love, and serve Him and to keep His commands. The laws God established were for their good—and ours as well. Sometimes, it can be hard to understand the reasoning behind the commands of God, but it is vital to remember that He never makes laws with malicious intent. On the contrary, God’s laws are to benefit and protect the people He loves. If we obey, God will pour out blessings.
