—Numbers 21:4-9
by: Paula Davis.
From the moment the serpent challenged Eve in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3), we humans have struggled with being content. Our sinful natures try to draw us away from God’s provision, certain we deserve something better. The Israelites proved this over and over during their forty years in the wilderness, yet each time they recognized their sinfulness and repented, God provided something to save them. The bronze serpent Moses was instructed to raise on the pole to save the Israelites was a foreshadowing of the eternal salvation granted by Jesus as He hung on the cross. As we turn to God and repent of our sins, He will forgive us and continue to move forward—loving us and teaching us to be content in Him.
