It is no secret that Saul and David had a rocky relationship—meaning Saul had some serious anger towards David and consistently tried to murder him. It is also no secret that Jonathan and David were close like brothers. I imagine the Amalekite might have felt proud of himself for taking Saul’s life, thinking it would bring some relief and celebration for David. However, David mourned not only for his friend, but also for Israel, and even for his enemy, Saul. Then, the men that were with David followed his example. What does David’s behavior teach us?
