—2 Samuel 1:17-27
by: Gabrielle Watt.
Here, we dive deeper into the heart of David surrounding the deaths of Jonathan and Saul. His mourning was honest and sincere. He even went as far as to write a song, singing of the good in both Jonathan and Saul, and he ordered that Judah learn this song. It is evident that David took no joy in the death of Saul, and he did not want anyone rejoicing about it. Rather, he wanted the people to think about the good Saul had done. David’s mourning over Jonathan was deep. In the song, he mentioned how precious their relationship was. How would you react if your enemy and dearest friend died? Should it differ?
