“For no good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit, for each tree is known by its own fruit. For figs are not gathered from thornbushes, nor are grapes picked from a bramble bush. The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

Too often I do not think carefully enough about the words I use. I get careless or think something will be funny or get caught up in my emotions and just blurt something out without thinking how it might impact someone else. But here is the thing about words—according to Jesus, they give a good indication of what is going on in our hearts. In reality, then, while it is good to think about the impact of my words, I should not have to think too hard about them if my heart is right. Perhaps I should focus on making my job easier by filling my heart with good things.
