“I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision, something like a great sheet descending, being let down from heaven by its four corners, and it came down to me. Looking at it closely, I observed animals and beasts of prey and reptiles and birds of the air. And I heard a voice saying to me, ‘Rise, Peter; kill and eat.’ But I said, ‘By no means, Lord; for nothing common or unclean has ever entered my mouth.’ But the voice answered a second time from heaven, ‘What God has made clean, do not call common.’

We have been reading all week about God’s creative power and His authority over creation. Therefore, it should come as no shock that He alone has the power to declare what is clean and unclean. Whether that is food, animals, or us. We have been restored and called pure because of Jesus! Remember that the Gospel is not something we outgrow or move past as Christians—it is at the center of who we are! Because we are made clean in Jesus, we can come boldly before God’s throne and cast our cares on Him. We can come to our Heavenly Father as cleansed children and not sinful enemies!
