—Psalm 23
by: Joy Choquette.
Shepherds in the ancient world had a big responsibility—not only to their sheep, but also to their families. Today, many people raise animals like sheep for a hobby. But in Bible times, these sheep were a farmer’s—and thus his family’s—future. Being a “good shepherd” meant, among other things, sacrificing one’s comfort and safety for the sheep. Jesus is the greatest Shepherd—His love knows no bounds and His sacrifice cost Him not only His life, but taking on all the sin, darkness, pain, and hurt of the world. It meant being separated from His Father. He did all of this for us because of His great love for us, His sheep.
