—Luke 23:32-36

The verse that struck me in this text is verse 34. Why did Jesus pray, “Father forgive them for they do not know what they do?” Certainly, they knew that they were crucifying an innocent man, putting him through the most horrible form of death. They did not know they were killing the one who came to save them from eternal death. They did not know they were fulfilling the prophecy of Psalm 69:21. They did not know He was the long-awaited Messiah. How many individuals today have not heard of Jesus—His coming, death, and resurrection? What is our responsibility when it comes to these individuals? What does the example of Jesus teach us?
