—John 1:19-28
by: Patrick London.
John the Baptist was baptizing with water and witnessing to the people of Bethabara (Bethany beyond the Jordan), expressing the importance of being baptized and coming to repentance. However, many people had a lot of questions. The Pharisees and Sadducees, whom John referred to as the generations of vipers, sent messengers to ask John who he was and what should they call him since he was baptizing people. John answered, stating clearly that he was sent to baptize only of water. John was referring to the baptism of water as something smaller than the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Considering the fact that baptism in water cannot save you; only accepting Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior can save you. Baptism is an outward sign to show the world that you are taking a step for Christ. Jesus must save you inwardly by drawing you to himself.
