In this section of a still familiar story, it is easy to "blame" Peter. How could he deny Christ-let alone deny him three times? Once again, this passage does apply to us as Christians. Can people we encounter tell that we've been spending time with Jesus? Do our actions and words proclaim Christ-or deny him? We may not verbally deny Christ, but do our day-to-day actions sometimes deny him?
When Peter and Jesus made eye contact (v. 61), Peter felt terrible! He felt ashamed and grieved. How do we react when Jesus turns his face to us? Like Peter, we need to recognize when we have strayed and be willing to repent-accepting the forgiveness that comes with confession.
