—Acts 2:37-42

Baptism is an act of obedience that follows our repentance. In today's passage, we see that illustrated. The people heard the gospel and recognized that they were sinful. But, it didn't stop there-they acted. They repented of their sins and were baptized.
Repentance is a response to the gospel message. We admit that we are sinful and need the forgiveness that Christ offers. Then, in obedience, we are baptized as an outward sign of that repentance.
After being baptized, the people devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching. We must devote ourselves to Christ's teaching. Our life should look very different after accepting Christ and being baptized in him. Our priorities turn to his priorities; our joy comes from serving him.
