—Nehemiah 1:5-11
by: Angie Osborn.
Yesterday, we saw Nehemiah go to prayer. Today, we read his prayer. It struck me that he did not go to the Lord with a "shopping list," although he had some serious concerns to bring to God. Instead, Nehemiah confessed. He openly told the Lord that he knew the Jews had been disobedient, and had, in a sense, "gotten what they deserved." Nehemiah admitted that they were a fallen people. Yet, at the same time, he saw that there was hope. Just as God promised there would be consequences for disobedience to him, he promised that he would bless if they would return to him. We too should pray like Nehemiah-be willing to confess our short comings before the Lord and then stand in the hope that he promises a better plan when we follow him.
