—Mark 2:18-22
by: K. Allen Geske.
Fasting is a somber, quiet time. When asked why his followers did not fast, Jesus used the analogy of a wedding feast. This feast was to be a time of joy. When the bridegroom (Jesus) was among them, it was the time to celebrate. When he was taken from them would be the time to fast.
Jesus was revolutionizing religion. The old way of doing things (the old garment or old wineskins) could not contain the new freedom that Jesus offered (the unshrunk patch or the new wine). We must be like new wineskins to allow Jesus to transform our lives totally.
