—Mark 5:1-10
by: Andrew J. Camenga.
Imagine the disruption this man caused in the life of the community. They tried to control him-resorting eventually to chains and shackles-but discovered that there was nothing that could hold him. He became the spook in the "cemetery" and could have been the truth behind the story that parents used to temper youthful enthusiasm for the great outdoors. The possessors of this man recognized Jesus and knew his authority. They knew what might be coming; instead of defying Jesus, they began to beg for better treatment.
We recognize the power of God and know that he has offered better life to those who know Jesus. Let us fall at the feet of God and ask for his heart-softening touch in the lives of our lost neighbors and friends. Let us help them see what the man of the Gerasenes was about to see-God's authority is guided by God's love and brings freedom.
