—Mark 6:1-6

In August 2001, we spent time in South Dakota during our return from Conference. One of the trends I noticed was a sign in several towns that said, "Home of (famous person)." We passed through the hometowns of the Governor, a congressman, and a U.S. senator. The people must feel proud every time their hero comes home.
Jesus did not receive special praise when he returned home. Perhaps there was a bit of jealousy that asked, "How can he be any better than us?" After all, he was just a carpenter, a laborer like them. The larger issue, however, was their unbelief. I often notice that relatives are the hardest people to witness to, because there is a barrier built between us. We can identify with the Savior.
