A spirit of gossip is one of the biggest problems I see in churches today. When we are honest, we see that all fall into the habit. Someone misses a service and we wonder what happened. A rumor about another congregation is taken at face value without asking those involved. A threat to the status quo causes us to undermine new people who have fresh ideas.
Jesus tells us that we tend to judge others before examining ourselves. The world will use this hypocrisy as an excuse to ignore our work. Within our walls, we have strife and power struggles because we cannot get along. Satan must be laughing at us when he sees attitudes of condemnation and scorn. It is time to look at us first.
