he did not choose the tribe of Ephraim,
68 but he chose the tribe of Judah,
Mount Zion, which he loves.
69 He built his sanctuary like the high heavens,
like the earth, which he has founded forever.
70 He chose David his servant
and took him from the sheepfolds;
71 from following the nursing ewes he brought him
to shepherd Jacob his people,
Israel his inheritance.
72 With upright heart he shepherded them
and guided them with his skillful hand.
—Psalm 78:67-72

God does not always choose the oldest or the strongest to be the leader. God chooses leaders who will follow after His own heart. He chooses leaders who He can trust with His people, who will listen to what He says, and who desire to do what is right. God’s priority is to put in place the right person whom He can help develop the skills necessary to be a good leader. We may not always understand why God chooses a certain person for a position, but we can rest assured that person fits with God’s plan. Pray for guidance in the position God has chosen for you.
