—Hebrews 11:23-28
by: Jerry Johnson.
I like the author of Hebrews' interpretation of the life of Moses. He had so much to gain being a child of Pharaoh's daughter, yet he was willing to lose it all in order to be obedient to God's call for his life. Reproach was greater than earthly treasure because he knew that there was an eternal reward awaiting him. That increased his faith and gave him endurance.
Philippians 3 tells of Paul's willingness to leave things behind for the cause of Christ, much as Moses did. We need to ask if our faith is strong enough to abandon the things this life has to offer for the cause of Christ. Most Americans do not know true sacrifice, but they can learn from Moses and his desire to please God alone.
