—3 John 2-8
by: Dale Rood.
Apparently at the time that John wrote this letter to Gaius, it was a practice for churches to send delegations to visit Christians in other cities or regions. Here John was commending Gaius for receiving such a group of itinerant missionaries, who to Gaius are strangers. These itinerants had gone out “for the sake of the Name” (v.7), to serve the Lord Jesus and to bear witness to Him. Faith comes: 1) in being willing to be sent, and 2) in receiving those who are sent. In which way is your faith being exercised?
