—James 1:26-2:4

We see in today's passage an added dimension to a life of purity: instead of opening our mouths, we are admonished to open our hands to orphans and widows. My mother in-law likes to repeat the old adage, "Idle hands are the devil's workshop." Indeed, we'd help put him out of business if we began this new habit.
(Picture the scenario) A family member or co-worker snaps at you. Instead of returning a retort, you see this as a cue from God-there is some widow you should call or visit. You ask God who to call and then pick up the phone.
