—James 2:14-18
by: Susan Bond.
The tightrope walker challenged the faith of his admiring onlookers by asking for a volunteer to ride in the wheelbarrow that he would push across a rope high above Niagara Falls.
It takes a measure of faith to believe that "with God all things are possible" (Matthew 19:26, NIV). The next step is to believe "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13, NKJV). I recall my mother's exhortation that this verse isn't telling me I must do all things. True, God hasn't told me to climb into the tightrope walker's wheelbarrow. But as I aspire to hear God better, am I willing to obey what he does tell me to do? (See Proverbs 1:22-2:9).
