As Christians, we must take the time to evaluate our desires. We should ask God to show us when we desire things that stem from pride as opposed to pleasing Him. It is not through envying others that we will receive the “blessings” from God. If you find yourself envying others, bring your desire to God and allow Him to change your heart. What is the reason behind what you desire and even the things you pray for? Our motives matter to God. “[W]hen you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure” (v.3, NLT). We should understand that by praying with pride rather than humility, we will never receive the things we pray for.
