Scripture Memory

Each year, we select nine scriptures for memorization by primary children, juniors, youth, and adults. These scriptures are chosen to relate to the Conference President’s theme for the year. This list of scriptures to be memorized is sent to Seventh Day Baptist churches in September. Beginning in 1994, these scriptures were also printed in The Sabbath Recorder.

At the end of the memorization year, each church submits the names of those who have learned the designated scriptures. We prepare certificates for each person, present the Mary G. Clare Scripture Memorization Award to the church submitting the most names, and recognize the churches that meet the requirements of the Honor Roll. The certificates are distributed during the Board’s program at General Conference and the names are listed in a fall issue of The Sabbath Recorder.

Here are the verses for this year:

    Theme: “Steadfast”

The 2014–15 program is based on the theme chosen by Conference President Bill Probasco of the Shiloh Seventh Day Baptist Church (Shiloh, New Jersey).

Families can work together to memorize these verses.

Please use the Bible translation that works best in your home and church setting. We used the 1984 edition of the New International Version was used for this list.

For those who prefer memorizing contiguous passages, the longer passage is provided as an alternative—memorizing it qualifies as complete participation in the program. This year’s longer text is Hebrews 12:22-29.
