—Psalm 42
Sometimes apparent contradictions do not invalidate each other. In Philippians 4:11-13, Paul talked about being content; about having been in need and having plenty and how he had learned to always be content in Christ. This is a central aspect of the Christian life. Which raises the question, “If I am content in Christ, how can I also long for God?” David already knew God but sang of his intense and impassioned desire to be closer to Him. I believe this to be one of the great contradictions in the Christian life. We should feel content in knowing Christ and have an intense longing to know Him more.
