—John 20:19-23
by: Lisa Moore.
The disciples shut themselves in a room because they were fearful for their lives. Could they be next after seeing what had been done to Jesus? Jesus appeared to these fearful men and said, “Peace be with you,” to calm their fears. After proving He was resurrected, Jesus again said “Peace be with you” (v.19). Why? To prepare them to hear what He would say next—that He was sending them with the Holy Spirit to continue the work He started. Are you afraid to witness? Jesus never expected you to witness in your own strength. Hear Jesus’ words: “Peace be with you.” The Holy Spirit is with you and will witness through you.
