—James 1:19-27
by: Jasmine Lynch.
James implores us to exhibit the righteousness of God by being “swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath” (v.19, NKJV) and putting aside “all filthiness and overflow of wickedness” and implanting the word which is able to save us (v.21, NKJV). In other words, he says we must be “doers of the word and not hearers only” (v.22, NKJV). James also lays out what pure and undefiled religion requires: live out your faith by meeting the needs of the poor and not defiling yourself with the world. How do you avoid being defiled by the world when you are being bombarded by ungodly influences?
