—Daniel 9:4-8, 15-19
by: Trisha Gerstel.
Daniel confessed, on behalf of Israel, their numerous sins against God. To confess means “to acknowledge” or “give evidence of” something (www.merriam-webster.com). If we are to confess our sins, we must stop trying to rationalize or justify them and instead admit that we were in the wrong. A child cannot ask his mother to help him clean up the flour he has spread all over the living room unless he is willing to admit to what he has done and to reveal to her the mess that he has created. Similarly, we cannot ask for God’s forgiveness, peace, and joy while still trying to cover up the depths of our iniquity.
