—Hebrews 7:15-17
by: Margaret Taylor.
When God gave the Law to the Israelites, He also gave them instructions for attaining pardon when they violated those laws. He gave them intercessors to come before the Lord on their behalf—the priests. But they, too, were imperfect, perishable, and regularly replaced. Long before there was a nation of Israel, Abraham was blessed by Melchizedek, a priestly king without human history—his power and authority undocumented. Abraham acknowledged him with tithes of all the battle spoils. Melchizedek, described as like the Son of God with neither beginning nor end, foreshadowed Christ, the eternal Priest and King who now sits at His Father’s right hand.
