Before Jesus, sin caused separation from God. In order to overcome this separation, God chose the descendants of Aaron as priests and intercessors for His people, the Israelites. The priests were chosen not by merit, but purely for their family heritage. And due to their mortality, they were temporary priests, only to serve as long as they lived. In contrast, Jesus, the great High Priest, was not from the line of Aaron but of Judah. He is High Priest, due entirely to His relationship with the Father, and intercedes on our behalf forever because He lives forever. How much greater is it to have an indestructible, forever priest!?'
