—2 Samuel 11:1-5
by: Judith Houts.
The end of the Lord’s Prayer says, “Lead us not into temptation.” Jesus knew we could not walk in His steps without God’s help. David led himself into temptation—inviting sin into his life by neglecting his kingly duty of leading his men into war and allowing idleness to cause his mind to wander. His eyes wandered, lust kicked in, and we know the rest of the story. Temptation itself is not a sin—falling into it is, and it can bring disaster into one’s life. King David not only became an adulterer but also a murderer. Next time you are tempted not to follow your daily responsibilities, think of David’s sins and pray, “Lead me not into temptation.”
