—John 8:1-11
by: Victoria Richards.
I can only imagine the shame and rejection this woman felt. The Scribes and Pharisees were ready to stone her to death. Jesus’ response was, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her” (v.7, NIV). One by one, the accusers left, until only Jesus remained. The only one qualified to throw that stone refused. Instead, Jesus showed mercy and compassion. Sometimes, we are quick to judge others when they fall, but we should remember that we are standing, not because of our own effort, but only because of God’s grace, mercy, and forgiveness. May we have a loving and forgiving heart like Jesus; may we point others to Jesus when they fall.
