—Psalm 51:1-15
by: Kay Samuels.
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me” (v.10, ESV). David had committed adultery and murder and had been confronted by Nathan the prophet. He did not make excuses, nor did he deny his sin. He was contrite, he repented, and God forgave him. No sin is too bad for God to forgive. David asked God to cleanse him and renew his relationship with Him. Someone else might have been so ashamed that instead of ‘fessing up, he would take his own life—like Judas when he betrayed Jesus. There are times when we are guilty of sin and we do not want anyone to know. God knows and He will forgive us if we ask.
