—1 Corinthians 8
by: Gabi Patz.
Can you be 100% right and 100% wrong at the same time? 1 Corinthians 8 tells us we can. Paul acknowledged that the Corinthians were right—there was no harm in eating the food sacrificed to idols because idols are not real gods. However, while the Corinthians were right in their knowledge, they were wrong in their love. Their actions were focused solely on themselves. They were not concerned about how their actions could be a stumbling block to others. They had knowledge but they lacked love. Even if an action does not cause us to stumble, it is still important to take an empathetic view to see how it may lead to sin in another person’s life. Are we being built up and building others up through love, or are we simply puffing ourselves up with knowledge?
