—Ephesians 4:25-5:2
by: Jerry Johnson.
In keeping with the theme of “taking off” and “putting on”, Paul listed several things we must remove from our lives. They include lying, unrighteous anger, stealing wages, corrupt talk like profanity, slander, and gossip, grieving the Holy Spirit through deliberate sin, bitterness and wrath, and sowing controversy. Instead we must be kind and gentle, forgiving others with a love that mirrors Christ’s love for us. Where do we fall along the spectrum of treating others with contempt versus showing mercy? Are we hypocrites who put on a good act in the presence of others or is our conduct truly gracious? Where do we fall short of Paul’s instructions?
