—Matthew 2:13-15

According to International and U.S. Law, a refugee is a person who: 1) Is outside his or her country of nationality or last habitual residence; 2) is unable or unwilling to return because of a well-founded fear of persecution; 3) on account of their race, religion, political opinion, nationality, or membership in a particular social group. If the United Nations was around in the time of Christ, He and His family would likely have been given refugee status. There are many parallels in the life of Christ and the lives of migrants and refugees today. Can this inform the way that we should treat foreigners in our own land? What does it look like to turn towards love and mercy in regards to the foreigner?
