—Colossians 3:12-17

It is, of course, no accident that the apostle Paul’s instructions to be compassionate, kind, humble, gentle, patient, forgiving, loving, filled with peace, and thankful came before His decree that the believers “[admonish] one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs” (v.16). We cannot truly praise and worship the Lord when our hearts lack these godly attributes. Whenever we interact with other believers, we need to remember that we cannot truly model praise and worship to the Lord unless our own hearts are filled with these spiritual fruits.
