—Exodus 14:1-9
by: Jasmine Lynch.
God hardening Pharoah’s heart (v.8) has always been very puzzling to me. Did God stop pleading with Pharoah and left him to his reprobate mind (Romans 1:28, KJV)? Looking back at Exodus 7:13, 22 and 8:19, we see that Pharoah hardened his own heart against doing what God commanded him to do. Now we get to chapter 14:8 and see that God withdrew His Holy Spirit from pleading with Pharaoh. His time was up. His heart was hardened. He could not do the right thing. He could not let God’s people go. We need to take a lesson from this: there is a limit to God’s pleading.
