When we know Christ, it is hard for those who do not know Him to understand the changes they see in us. This was the case with Stephen. A Jew until his belief in Christ, all of a sudden he was performing “great wonders and signs” (v.8). The priests around him were confused and probably a little jealous. They could not cope with Stephen’s Holy Spirit wisdom and so turned against him. Our faith in Jesus and the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives is illogical from a human standpoint. It is intimidating, and that intimidation can lead to persecution. Like Stephen, we must continue to speak as the Holy Spirit leads regardless of the circumstances.
